Fault code: EMS 5645 SCANIA

Error identification:

Unintentional activation of the starter motor.

Cause:

Incorrect internal information in the engine control unit.

Notes:

Abnormal noise can be heard from the engine if the starter motor is activated when the engine is running.

The starter motor is activated when the engine is off.

Action:

Ensure that the drive mode selector is in the neutral position.

Clear the fault code and switch off the power with the starter key. Wait one minute and switch on the voltage with the starter key. Repeat this five times and ensure that the starter motor is not activated.

Start the engine. If the starter motor does not work satisfactorily, it must be checked.

Leave the engine idling for approximately 10 minutes. If the fault code is activated again the cause could be a short circuit to ground. If that is the case check the harness-to-harness connectors and electrical cables.

If no fault is found in the harness-to-harness connectors and electrical cables: Renew the engine control unit and carry out the test again.
