Fault code: 515 SCANIA

Error identification:

Open circuit detected in the injector solenoid valve or in the electrical cables to the injector.

Cause:

The electrical cable or solenoid valve for the injector on cylinder 3 is probably defective.

Notes:

The fault only occurs when the engine is running. The control unit continuously tries to use the injectors irrespective of malfunctions. Engine power is affected to different degrees depending on how many injectors are faulty.

Action:

1. Run Safety precautions for the fuel system.

2. Disconnect the electrical cable connections from the control unit and from the solenoid valve on the defective injector.

3. Measure the resistance across the solenoid valve.

4. Check the electrical cable pin connections in the switch to the control unit and the cable grommet in the cylinder head.

5. Measure the resistance between the two loose ends of the positive and negative cables respectively.

If the operating time since the fault code was generated exceeds 10 hours, drain the EGR cooler as there is a risk that condensation formed in the air-cooled EGR cooler while the EGR system was switched off. Drain according to the instructions in Workshop Manual, sub-group 01-65.

Carry out the following:

• Check the injector for electrical faults.

• Check that the electrical cables to the injectors are intact.

• Replace the injector if it is faulty. Start the engine after replacing the injector to confirm that the repair was successful.
