Fault code: 5138 SCANIA

Error identification:

The exhaust gas pressure is too high when the exhaust brake is engaged.

Cause:

The exhaust manifold is blocked or the exhaust brake valve is defective, e.g. the valve has stuck in full brake position. Fault in the exhaust gas pressure sensor, blocked pipe to the exhaust gas pressure sensor or fault in the atmospheric pressure sensor.

Notes:

The check is only carried out during exhaust braking. The exhaust brake works with increased braking force. The fault can cause engine damage.

Action:

Check whether the exhaust brake valve is stuck.

Check that the proportional valve V107 functions correctly.

Check the exhaust gas pressure sensor T125, the pipe to the exhaust gas pressure sensor, the atmospheric pressure sensor as well as the harness-to-component connectors and electrical cables of both sensors.
