Fault code EMS 4610

For this fault code there are several descriptions depending on the system to which this code refers and its version or version of this system that is installed on the machine

Rotational speed sensor

Error identification:

The signal from rotational speed sensor T74 has indicated an implausible rotational speed decrease below the level at which the sensor detects that the flywheel has completed one revolution.


Cause:

Open circuit on the speed signal from the engine speed sensor. The fault code may be generated when starting in extremely cold weather or with a poor battery.


Notes:

If fault code 4615 has been generated at the same time, then the signal must have been absent for several engine rotations, otherwise the fault is due to a temporary disturbance.

If only one of the rotational speed sensors is faulty, the maximum engine torque is reduced by 30% as long as the fault is active. In addition, the engine s high idle speed is lower than usual.

If both rotational speed sensors are faulty, the engine will shut down.


Action:

Check the rotational speed sensors, harness-to-harness connectors and electrical cables.

Check the battery voltage.

If fault code 4615 has been generated at the same time, the signal has been lost for a number of engine revolutions. Otherwise it is a temporary disruption.

Engine speed, engine overspeed protection

Error identification:

Engine speed has been above 2750 rpm.


Cause:

Incorrect handling, e.g. incorrect downshifting.

The fault can also be caused by an oil leak from the compressor into the air intake, or a fuel leak from one of the injectors into the cylinders.


Notes:

The engine power is reduced when the fault code is active.


Action:

Switch the ignition off and on with the starter key to restart the engine control unit. Assuming no components were damaged during overrevving, the engine will operate normally again. Inform the driver of the risks of engine damage at high rotational speeds.
