Fault code: EMS 4197 SCANIA

Error identification:

The atmospheric pressure sensor indicates too low a value in comparison with the charge air pressure and exhaust gas pressure.

Cause:

• When temperatures are low, there is a risk of ice forming in the pressure sensors.

• Fault in the atmospheric pressure sensor harness-to-component connectors or cable harness.

• Fault in the atmospheric pressure sensor.

Action:

Ice may have formed in the pressure sensors if temperatures have been low. Make sure the pressure sensors have had time to thaw before further action is taken.

Compare the values from the charge air pressure sensor T47/T122, exhaust gas pressure sensor T125, and combined sensor T4000. The engine should be switched off with the starter key in drive mode. The sensors should display a value that corresponds to current atmospheric pressure.

Check the sensors harness-to-component connector and cable harness. Renew any sensor or sensors that deviate from current atmospheric pressure.

To check that the fault has been rectified:

1. Make sure the engine is warmed up.

2. Turn the starter key to drive mode.

3. Wait for 30 seconds.

The fault code should become inactive immediately.

1. Compare the values from the charge air pressure sensor, the exhaust gas pressure sensor T125 and the internal atmospheric pressure sensor in coordinator E30. The engine should be switched off with the starter key in drive mode. The sensors should display a value that corresponds to current atmospheric pressure.

2. Check the sensors harness-to-component connector and cable harness.

3. Renew any sensor or sensors that deviate from current atmospheric pressure.

4. If there is a fault in the atmospheric pressure sensor, renew coordinator E30.

Verification

1. Make sure the engine is warmed up.

2. Turn the starter key to drive mode.

3. Wait for 30 seconds.

The fault code should become inactive immediately.
